    Watching the Atlantic surf crash down on the rugged east coast of this richly diverse island and, for a moment, you may feel you could be on the Cornish coast but the moment you hear the waves of gospel singing emanating from a tiny local church you realise you could not be anywhere else but Barbados.

    Philipsburg is the capital of Sint Maarten, the Dutch side of the Caribbean island Saint Martin. Beachfront bars line the boardwalk along Great Bay. Voorstraat, or Front Street, has duty-free shops and casinos. The St. Maarten Zoo is home to parrots, monkeys and a playground. Sint Maarten Museum displays artifacts from the indigenous Arawak people. The ruins of 17th-century Fort Amsterdam stand on a nearby peninsula.

    Avec plus de 365 plages, on y trouve une tranche de paradis de sable blanc pour chaque jour de l’année – même une année bissextile – sur l’idyllique île de vacances d’Antigua dans les Caraïbes, qui accueillit la flotte de l’amiral Horatio Nelson à la fin des années 1700. Sur le chantier naval de Nelson s’affaire maintenant les équipages et les passagers des yachts et bateaux de croisière naviguant dans ces eaux pour leur plaisir plutôt que par patriotisme.

    Kingstown is the capital of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The port city is known for its Botanical Gardens, founded in 1765 and home to tropical plants and aviaries. On a ridge above the bay, the 1806 Fort Charlotte offers panoramic views of the archipelago. The city center has 19th-century churches such as St. Mary’s Cathedral. The lively Kingstown Market sells local produce. Popular Villa Beach is nearby.
