Summertime on the West Coast – from/to Leixões (Porto)

The Port of Leixões is one of Portugal’s major seaports, located 4 km north of the mouth of the Douro River, in Matosinhos municipality, near the city of Porto. Leixões Sport Club, commonly known simply as Leixões, is Matosinhos’ sports club.

The Verdon is a 166.5-kilometre-long river in south-eastern France, left tributary of the Durance. Its drainage basin is 2,295 km². Its source is at an elevation of 2,819 metres, in the south-western Alps, between the col d’Allos and the Trois Eveches mountain, south of Barcelonnette

In the medieval old town is the arcaded Plaza de María Pita, surrounded by narrow pedestrianized lanes. In this square is the Estatua de María Pita, a statue of a 16th-century woman who warned the town of an invasion by Sir Francis Drake.
