    Santos, l’une des premières colonies portugaises du Nouveau Monde, a été fondée en 1535.

    Aujourd’hui, votre navire MSC va accoster dans le plus grand port d’Amérique latine, par lequel transite une grande partie du café, du sucre et des oranges du monde.
    La ville se trouve en partie sur l’île de São Vicente, ses installations d’accostage et sa vieille ville faisant face à la terre ferme, les navires s’approchant par un chenal étroit mais profond. Son centre compact conserve un certain charme qui est massivement apprécié des touristes locaux, et la ville présente un grand intérêt historique et maritime. Lors d’une croisière du MSC Amérique du Sud dans le centre ville, vous trouverez les ruines de certains des bâtiments les plus remarquables de Santos le long de la Rua do Comércio.
    Bien qu’il n’en reste parfois que les façades, certaines des anciennes maisons de marchands du 19ème siècle qui bordent la rue sont progressivement restaurées, les carreaux de faïence et les balcons en fer forgé offrant un soupçon de la grandeur perdue de la vieille ville. Les croisières du MSC Amérique du Sud proposent également des excursions au club local du Futebol de Santos. Il est surtout connu comme le club dans lequel le grand Pelé a joué pendant la plus grande partie de sa vie professionnelle (de 1956 à 1974) ; leur stade, le Vila Belmiro, est ouvert au public lorsqu’il n’y a pas de match.
    En plus de rendre hommage à Pelé dans le petit musée du club, vous pouvez faire une visite guidée d’une heure qui comprend le bar des joueurs et les vestiaires. Les plages de Santos se trouvent en face du Centro, dans le Sud de l’île. Elles sont immenses, s’étendent tout autour de la Baía de Santos, face à l’Atlantique, et sont très fréquentées en été.
