Milwaukee is a city in the U.S. state of Wisconsin on Lake Michigan’s western shore. It’s known for its breweries, many of which offer tours chronicling its role in the beer industry. Le jésuite français Claude Allouez, en 1665, fut le premier missionnaire à sy rendre, il fut alors suivi par le père Jacques Marquette, qui établit une mission à Saint-Ignace en 1671. Un fort y fut construit plus tard, devenant ainsi le quartier général des opérations commerciales françaises en Nouvelle-France et un poste militaire important dans le Vieux-Nord-Ouest; son importance diminua lorsque la ville de Detroit fut fondée en 1701. La région passa aux mains des Britanniques en 1761 lors du dernier conflit des guerres entre français et indiens. En 1763, les membres de la garnison britannique à Old Mackinac furent attaqués et tués par lOttawa pendant la rébellion de Pontiac.

Killarney is a town on the shores of Lough Leane in southwest Ireland’s County Kerry. La Pulperie de Chicoutimi museum charts regional history in an 1800s wood-pulp mill. Exhibits on the area’s huge 1996 floods are on show at the Musée de la Petite Maison Blanche. Ski and bike trails wind through the riverside Parc de la Rivière-du-Moulin.

Halifax, an Atlantic Ocean port in eastern Canada, is the provincial capital of Nova Scotia. A major business centre, it’s also known for its maritime history. The city’s dominated by the hilltop Citadel, a star-shaped fort completed in the 1850s. Waterfront warehouses known as the Historic Properties recall Halifax’s days as a trading hub for privateers, notably during the War of 1812.
