A Coruña is a port city on a promontory in the Galicia region of northwest Spain. It’s known for its Roman lighthouse, the Tower of Hercules, which has sweeping coastal views. In the medieval old town is the arcaded Plaza de María Pita, surrounded by narrow pedestrianized lanes. In this square is the Estatua de María Pita, a statue of a 16th-century woman who warned the town of an invasion by Sir Francis Drake.

The Port of Leixões is one of Portugal’s major seaports, located 4 km north of the mouth of the Douro River, in Matosinhos municipality, near the city of Porto. Leixões Sport Club, commonly known simply as Leixões, is Matosinhos‘ sports club.

Die Altstadt Lissabons ist wundervoll. Sie ist nicht nur verwinkelt, sondern Sie müssen auch recht gut zu Fuß sein, um von der Unterstadt in die Oberstadt zu gelangen – oder Sie entscheiden sich gleich für eine Fahrt mit dem historischen Fahrstuhl „Elevador de Santa Justa“. Ebenfalls entspannt ist eine Fahrt mit der Tram: Damit sparen Sie sich die anstrengenden Wege komplett und erleben Lissabon trotzdem hautnah. Zwischendurch sollten Sie immer mal wieder in einem der vielen kleinen Cafés einkehren und die lokalen Spezialitäten probieren.

Bilbao, an industrial port city in northern Spain, is surrounded by green mountains. It’s the de facto capital of Basque Country, with a skyscraper-filled downtown. It’s famed for the Frank Gehry–designed Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, which sparked revitalization when it opened in 1997.

Zeebrugge is a Belgian port and seaside resort. It’s linked to the city of Bruges by the Baudouin Canal. The old fish market in the marina houses Seafront, a theme park focusing on the local seafaring and fishing heritage. Exhibits include a Russian submarine. In nearby Knokke-Heist, the For Freedom Museum evokes the area’s WWII history through dioramas. West along the coast are the De Fonteintjes wetland and dunes.
